Did you watch The Big DIY Challenge on RTÉ? Hosted by PJ Gallagher, the show saw 52 DIY enthusiasts compete to win a grand prize of €10,000. From skate parks to chicken coops, they had just 10 days to complete their projects.

With the winners chosen by the show’s expert judges. One of which was our very own Product Manager, Jimmy Englezos. Here he is with his view on the worthy winners.

This year’s worthy winners

Overall Winner

This year’s best in show went to Catríona Bergin – bagging herself a whopping €10,000. Despite some tough competition, it was Catríona’s range of skills that earnt her the trophy. Painting. Tiling. Welding. Plumbing. You name it, Caitríona DIYed it. And considering a lot of what she did was a first attempt, the finish was simply immaculate.

Best Outside Project

This went to Michael Judd’s crescent moon firepit. Michael beat bad weather, bad luck and bad odds yet still created the most impressive Outside Project of them all.

Best Inside Project

Catríona Bergin, our overall winner, won Best Inside Project. Woodwork, tiling, painting, plumbing all done to perfection. She even installed a stove!

Best Upcycling Project

Stephen Hynes’ BBQ area won Best Upcycling Project thanks to the huge range of different materials he used and the standard of finish.

Best Small Project
Fergal Megannety’s beehive won Best Small Project because of the precision and detail in the finish. Certainly a home fit for a queen.

If you missed a show, don’t worry there’s still time to catch up on the RTÉ player.
