Often, interior wood is only as good as the varnish it is finished with. When working on interior projects, it is important to select high-performing solutions such as Ronseal Trade Polyurethane Varnish and Ronseal Trade Quick Dry Interior Varnish to ensure a professional finish. In this blog, we explain what makes these products stand out from the crowd, the main differences between them and when to use them.

Ronseal Trade Polyurethane Varnish

To ensure a quality, long-lasting finish it is important to select an interior varnish that offers tough protection against knocks, scuffs and scratches such as Ronseal Trade Polyurethane Varnish. This traditional, solvent-based varnish offers a clear finish and is available in Mattcoat, Satincoat and Hardglaze depending on the customer’s preference.

Ronseal Trade Polyurethane Varnish is ideal for interior timber as it forms a tough, durable seal and is resistant to boiling water, hot plates and household chemicals. This means that the finish you put on will last.

As well as offering excellent performance, Ronseal Trade Polyurethane Varnish is incredibly easy to apply. To get the best results, sand the wood with 120 grit paper before wiping away any dust with white spirit. Once the surface is dry, use a brush to apply three coats. For the best finish, we recommend lightly sanding the surface with 240 grit paper before applying the final coat.

To ensure safety when applying the solution, the room you are working in should be well ventilated and a mask should be worn at all times.

Ronseal Trade Quick Dry Interior Varnish

When time is of the essence, Ronseal Trade Quick Dry Interior Varnish is ideal. The water-based varnish provides incredibly tough protection against damage to internal timber and will dry completely in just one hour. To this end, those using the solution are able to begin the recoating process in only 60 minutes, helping to speed up projects and allow work to progress at a far faster rate.

Ronseal Trade Quick Dry Interior Varnish is available in a range of colours to suit any room aesthetic – including Clear, Light Oak, Antique Pine, Dark Oak, Medium Oak, Walnut and Deep Mahogany. It can also be used on a wide section of internal features including softwood and hardwood windows, skirtings, architraves and paneling.

Ronseal Trade Quick Dry Interior Varnish can be easily applied using a brush and, as always, it is important to only apply the solution in a well-ventilated room and when wearing a full protective mask.

Making the right choice

Installers can rely on either product to ensure a high-quality finish. In general, choosing the right product will come down to time constraints, as well as the desired glossiness of the finish.

With Ronseal Trade Polyurethane Varnish, customers can choose from Mattcoat, Satincoat and Hardglaze, offering maximum choice. For example, a matt finish will absorb light and give a subtle, smooth look – whereas a gloss finish helps to reflect light within interior environments to create a level of brightness. Alternatively, Ronseal Trade Quick Dry Interior Varnish provides a finish that enhances the natural beauty of the wood. The colour choices mean that interior wood can be colour matched for consistency throughout the room.

There are some other things to bear in mind when making the choice. For one, all solvent-based varnishes will naturally yellow over the course of their lifecycles, whilst water-based solutions remain clear. What’s more, solvent-based solutions have more volatile organic compounds, so water-based alternatives are kinder to the environment and the applier.

There is a lot to consider when choosing the right varnish for your job, but the good news is by choosing to invest in Ronseal Trade products you are guaranteed to get a high performing result. Whether Ronseal Trade Quick Dry Interior Varnish or Ronseal Trade Polyurethane Varnish is used, those in the trade can feel confident they are picking the right solution for the job in hand. As always, this exceptional performance is backed by decades of research and development investment – and both products have been BBA Approved.
